We had a nice Valentine’s day. Actually, we waited until the weekend and went out for a nice dinner at Point Comfort Place in Okauchee. We really didn’t give each other expensive gifts, as we are saving up for the wedding, but Dana gave me the best valentine I’ve ever received, so it was quite the memorable night…

Wow, so Pete and I picked our wedding day…not arbitrarily…but, well we didn’t put a HUGE amount of thought into it. I mean, June is the COOLEST month of the year (says the June baby engaged to another June baby) and everything; so, that definitely played a part…
But then, today, while listening to my nerd radio, I mean NPR, I got cosmic assurance as to the greatness of our upcoming wedding day. In a short interview on “Day to Day,” Cliff Arnall, a British psychologist, claimed that today, January 22, is the most depressing day of the year. But, and here’s where it really gets interesting, we should fear not because the happiest day of the year, according to his calculations, is just around the corner–That’s right! You guessed it! The happiest day of the year is going to be June 22!!
It was definitely going to be the happiest day in our lives…but now it can be the happiest day in yours too!
If you want to listen to the interview, you can find it at: npr.org
We’ve got about 6 months to get everything ready for the wedding. 6 months either seems like a really long time, or no time at all.
A good number of things are already taken care of (thanks to Dana!) like the Save the Dates and the invitations, but we still have a lot to finalize. The guest list is a never-ending issue. We’d love to invite everyone we know, but as the list grows, so does the cost of the catering, which pushes the limit of our budget. Plus, we’re simple people, and an intimate affair is more appropriate for us than a huge overcrowded event.
If you know me (Pete) you know I am not a tuxedo kid of guy. I don’t own a tie. Heck, I don’t even like wearing shirts with buttons on them! That doesn’t mean I won’t be dressed somewhat formal for the wedding. So for those of you showing up, you’ll get to see me dressed all fancy (but not too fancy… No tuxedos!) And for those of you not able to attend, I’m sure there will be photos on this site and over on Flickr…
Although I can’t show you all a photo of my wedding dress, for fear that Pete may see it, I can tell you about it! After much searching and trying on, I settled on a classic strapless A-line number with an ivory satin skirt and lace bodice. It is full length (I was toying with the idea of a cocktail-length dress) and has the slightest little bit of train. I bought it at this great little shop in Hartland, Wisconsin called Jilene’s Bridal. The shop seems small (and it actually is) but the selection is amazing and the owner is absolutely fantastic–she is actually storing my dress for me until I pick it up the day before the wedding!
But, the piece de resistance is the veil–Gorgeous!! I knew as soon as I saw it that it was the one for me…Funny how that works with veils and men! It is a beautiful antique ivory with bronze, pearl and ivory accents around the edge.
Now to find the perfect shoes…
Finding a suitable “Save The Date” card is quite the challenge…
There are cards, and postcards, and blank cards, and magnets, and 100 different styles of each. I think we’re at the point where we need to make a decision and go with it rather than keep looking, because we could definitely keep looking, and finding things we like. Which wouldn’t help in the “getting things done” department.
We’ll try to post a photo here when we have it. That is, when we decide on it…
